Dead Pop Stars Society -New Single- Los Hell Raisers

Introducing Dead Pop Stars Society

Dead Pop Stars Society’s self titled debut album is a surreal, adrenaline-fueled, hyper sample based, electro-psychedelic sonic experience.

The first single, “Los Hell Raisers”, is emblematic of Dead Pop Stars Society’s surreal cut-and-paste aesthetic, creating a mosaic of immortal pop nuggets, bass heavy electro beats, and funky psychedelic obscurities; meticulously blended together using a unique circular, multi-layered, harmonic, spur of consciousness mixing style.

The album will be out February 11th 2014 and available for free download at DeadPopStarsSociety.com

More About Dead Pop Stars Society

Dead Pop Stars Society is a collaboration between MF Rex and Salvador G, two co-founders of NYC’s notorious Automatic Reaction crew. MF Rex, the vinyl slingin’ post-modern alpha-caveman is the yin to yang of Salvador G, the peculiar gentlemen who could easily be mistaken as a genetically modified amalgamation of Charlie Chaplin, Sigmund Freud, and Bruce Lee. Their new album takes creative inspiration from classic pop art, underground cinema, dystopian literature, Freudian psychology, and a wide array of music influences.

Don’t Sweat The Technique

Dead Pop Stars Society seeks to redefine and reinvigorate the previous paradigm of the “mashup.”  Their circular, spur of consciousness editing style glides in and out of samples, often having prominent samples disappear and reappear over time.

Any given track features dozens of harmonically mixed samples, ranging from tastefully chosen vintage anthems, classics and bangers from pop purveyor extraordinaire Salvador G; and from there, takes a leap into the twisted world of obsessive compulsive crate digger MF Rex.  The result being an unmistakeable slice of party starting pop surrealism.

Influences

Dead Pop Stars Society’s music influences and sample sources span the gamut from bargain bin pop music classics to long lost obscurities from MF Rex’s vinyl archives. On any given track, you can expect to hear samples from dozens of genres including hip hop, glam, electro house, cock rock, soul, pop, funk, dubstep, bubblegum, bollywood, afrobeat, italo disco, punk rock, 60s french pop, mambo, boogaloo, big band jazz, rockabilly, moombahton, classical, and movie soundtracks and dialog samples.

On a production level, the cut & paste aesthetic of the following artists / producers was especially inspirational:  Public Enemy, Radio Soulwax, DJ Shadow, Afrika Bambaataa, RJD2, Ultramagnetic MC’s, NWA, Gang Starr, The Wiseguys, Parov Stelar, Eric B & Rakim, Cassius, Dangermouse, RZA, Onra, Prince Paul, A Tribe Called Quest, and The 45 King.

Here’s a few other all time favorite artists of Salvador G and MF Rex:  Jean Jacques Perrey, Prince, The Temptations, Mord Fustang, Ram Jam, Curtis Mayfield, The Ramones, Fred Astaire, James Brown, Incredible Bongo Band, The Skull Snaps, Dillon Francis, Caetano Veloso, Chic, Benny Goodman, Knife Party,  Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Squier, The Clash, Daft Punk, David Bowie, Crookers, Dead Kennedys, ESG, Iggy Pop, Judas Priest, Kanye West, Justice, Missy Elliott, Nadastrom, Rick James, Sleigh Bells, T Rex, Kill The Noise, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Serge Gainsbourg, The Turtles, Boys Noize, Stevie Wonder, Outkast.
